here’s our interview with great photographer, and really nice person, emily searle!
How old are you and where do you live?
25, williamsburg, brooklyn, new york

What does a normal day in your life look like? school, work, etc?
i work for Lomography. im really lucky, i get to talk about film and cameras all day!
So when did you start taking photos and was there something specific that drew you to it?
i started shooting polaroids at a really young age (as many from our generation did).
when i got a little older i discovered my moms compact point and shoot camera, i loved doing self portraits with the timer.

What is your favorite camera to use and why?
my favorite is a contax t2, its one of the best lenses on a camera out there.
the camera is small, light, and precise. its a great camera to shoot on the street.
I really love your series of people floating in water, did you encounter any challenges shooting that?
thank you! it was a very important project for me because i knew i’d be moving to new york that fall and it was my last chance to really shoot the diverse bodies of water savannah, georgia had to offer.
i shot the entire series with a 4×5 view camera (as most of my work from school) but shooting outside under the hot sun and a focusing cloth definitely made it interesting.

Who are your major influences?
sally mann, sofia coppola, miles alridge, francesca woodman, ellen von unwerth, lillian bassman, rineke dijkstra, exene cervenka, steven meisel

Where do you want to see youself in five years?
shooting at a big studio at home and constantly collaborating with my amazing friends.
