Her photos are an absolutely amazing slice of teenage life. Watch out for her, photos with this much sweetness and honesty are bound to go somewhere big.

AN-how old are you and where do you live?

JM-I’m seventeen. I live in the great state of Colorado

AN-what does a normal day in your life look like? school, work, etc?

JM-That’s a hard question. On average school days I wake up early, head to school, go to the post office to deliver packages, get tea, and come home. Nothing too exciting. Most Thursday and Friday nights Jeremy picks me up and we head to some restaurant downtown to perform, get paid, and come home. Right now, I am currently unemployed in the sense that I don’t have a “real” job. Ha. I am making my money singing with my friend’s band in various bars, restaurants, etc. And taking pictures. It’s wonderful. And because of this lack of employment, I don’t really have “normal” days. I have more time to adventure. There’s more space for spontaneity.

AN-so when did you start taking photos and was there something specific that drew you to it?

JM-I started taking photos in middle school, but not seriously until about highschool. In middle school I used to go out and buy dozens of disposable cameras, bring them to school, and take pictures of my friends. I don’t know why, really, but it became sort of an obsession. I guess I was drawn to it back then because I was able to capture a good moment and keep it forever.

AN-what is your favorite camera to use and why?

JM-My dad gave me this old Ricoh of his. Everything is manual cause he got it way back when he was in highschool. I love doing everything manually. Hearing the clicking and whatnot. It is my favorite one to use. But my favorite one to use because of the quality of the pictures it takes in the Canon that I have. It captures colors great on film.

AN-I really love how your photos look almost like a diary. is it a sort of daily journal type activity for you?

JM-Thank you. It has definitely become a type of diary for me. I take my camera absolutely everywhere with me. It’s sort of a way for me to document my life, the people in it, the places we go to. I also love being able to look back and a picture and think ‘wow, that’s beautiful, I can’t believe I was there.

AN-who are your major influences?

JM-People always ask me this question and I don’t really have an answer. I suppose it would be a lot of the people on Flickr that I am constantly in awe with. But I’m never really trying to make my pictures look a certain way based off of another person. I’m just trying to capture my life in a way that makes everyone see it the way that I do, if that makes any sense. Ha.

AN-where do you want to see youself in  five years?

JM-In five years I want to have traveled. I want to go to Iceland and Spain. I want to travel the US in a tiny blue Volvo. I want to see places and live freely. And after all that, I really don’t know. I’ll just have to figure it out as I go.
