Curtis Joe Walker-”I haven’t even started the dirty stuff yet”

By alyssanoches

I chatted with Curtis Joe Walker during his last train trip….

AN-so where are you headed?
CJW-Indy. I’m doing some shootin’ for DeviantNation and personal work.

AN-sounds like fun to me,you travel quite a bit, correct?
CJW-yes. I travel a bit. maybe 2-4 big trips a year

AN-where are you originally from?
CJW-Las Vegas. I’ve lived there my whole life except for 8 months in Ireland and 14 Augusts in Telluride, Co.

AN- As a photographer, Vegas must be pretty interesting?

CJW-there’s a pretty good collection of locations both natural and urban, the problem is that people turn into flakes once they get there. girls set stuff up with me and then get trashed and never work.Though it’s not bad for people watching though. and there’s a series of tunnels inhabited by homeless. and great graffiti. I haven’t explored any of them yet.

AN-what kinds of photos did you start out taking? how did you get into nude photography?

CJW-I first shot 35mm when I signed up for beginning photography. I worked up to nudes, but it was always my main interest. I just had to get past the anxiety about doing it. and then work on actually doing it good

AN-Have you had alot of support from family and friends over your photographic career?

CJW-when deviant nation gave me a free beta account, I started looking for girls who would shoot with me. my family supports me wholly. I mean I don’t show my grandma bondage photos, but anyone who knows me knows it’s my passion

AN-Is this your full time job?

CJW_I also write for Professional Photographer Magazine as a freelancer. and I do IT work for small businesses in Vegas. sometimes, I also act.photography is self supporting, but not really a source of profit. I’m hoping to change that. I’m looking to start an Mfa program next fall

AN-who are some of you favorite models/photographers?

CJW-Fedora El Morrow has been a really great person to work with. we’ve had nothing but success and professionalism. the Portland girls I shot for DN were all pretty awesome. rocket, cricket and Sydney. My favorite photographers are Annie liebowitz, Frederic Fontenoy, Bob coulter, nathan Apple amongst others,Richard Kern too, for sure

AN-where do you want to see youself in five years? ten years?

CJW-in 5 years I want to be teaching college photography and have my MFA. I’m hoping to have placed myself in the Vegas art scene and have a reputation as a raunchy, talented weirdo with a really hot wife. By the time I’m 50, I want to be in Paris. either with my wife or with some 20 year old. I’d like to think that I’d be fully developed creatively and technically by then and I’d just focus on perfecting art-porn.

AN-What are your thoughts on that? has anyone ever told you, this is not art, you are making porn?

CJW-yeah. I’ve had that said to me. a girl just told me “your photos are the dirtiest stuff I’ve ever seen” and I’m thinking “I haven’t even gotten started on the dirty stuff yet”

AN-what do you do when you aren’t taking photos? what’s your day to day life like?

CJW-I’m a full time single dad. my 2 year old daughter and I hang out at the library/park or mcdonalds. I work away from home 1-2 days a week and spend the rest of the time doing work at home, watching movies or just f’ing off on the Internet. I’m trying to do less of the latter.

AN-if you could set up the PERFECT shoot, what would you do?

CJW-my perfect shoot would be something like Revenge by Ellen Von Unwerth. Just getting some trained, painfully beautiful girls into a stylized, eroticized environment and shooting them on 4×5

  1. Fedora el Morro Says:

Curtis is one of my favorite people to work with. It doesn’t really feel like work, however, it feels like a dirty episode of Find the Mustache, mine, not his. And no, he hasn’t even started with the dirty stuff. Cheers!

  2. Charles Fortune, Jr. Says:

Curtis is a talented, original photographer. Can’t wait to see what else he comes up with.
