he recently took the time to answer some questions for us…

What is a typical day for you?
Making artwork and running Archival Prints LLC print studio in Brooklyn. I spend a lot of time walking around S Williamsburg looking for art materials.
When did you begin creating collages, and what were those collages like?
Early 2000. Like rough sketches. They felt, to me, less organized. There was much less attention paid to the end result in my earlier work. I was much less concerned about making finished pieces and more interested in refining my collage process, understanding the materials. There was also less conceptual value to my earlier work.

How did you develop your style, who/what influenced you?
First by collecting and taking apart everthing I could find. I guess I began to add organization to the randomness. My work seems more minimal now. Collage and De’Collage artists from around the 1950’s. My mixed media instructor from The School of the Art Institute Chicago, John Rozelle. Some contemporary artists, recently Martin Kippenberger. Natural weathered surfaces. I’d have to say my influences are far greater than I even recognize. Some of my aesthetic influences are from the art world but not all. The concepts in my artwork are not influenced by the art world as much as by my environment. Brooklyn is an influence now.

How often are you able to produce work?
In the last 5 years? Everyday mostly. Sometimes one a day. Sometimes five. It comes in waves.
Do you have a studio, or do you work from home?
At home in S Williamsburg Brooklyn.

Do you have any other hobbies/interests?
I roam around Brooklyn a lot. I recently started playing guitar. Surfing and skating sometimes. Art began as a hobbie for me, later it became more intense as it became my profession.

do you ever work in any other mediums?
In the last 5 years Archival Prints LLC has taken my artwork to surfboards and skateboards. I try to always work with different mediums.
